WELLSBURG – Officials with Brooke Hills Park announced preliminary work for a new swimming pool there is set to begin August 30th while donations from various sources will enable the park to add a paintball arena and disc and foot golf to its activities.

Three prefabricated concrete buildings will be placed near the pool: one containing restrooms and changing areas for the pool’s patrons, another with a pump room, concession stand and lifeguard station and the third for the admission counter and rental and sale of equipment for two other new additions to the park:  A disc golf course and footgolf course.

The last will be named for the late Alvar V. Lauttamus, founder of Lauttamus Communications and Security of Weirton, whose donation has funded it. Disc golf replaces balls and holes with Frisbees and metal cages while footgolf involves players kicking a soccer ball into cups.

Park Manager Janice McFadden also thanked the Friends of Brooke Hills Park, its fundraising arm, for its efforts.  McFadden said the new pool and other additions fulfill a vision she had for the park when she entered the position 13 years ago.
